For
years we had been looking for a suitable stallion for our breeding
operation. We travelled to the US several times, had numberous
phoneconversations with American collegue breeders and studied many
video's in order to find 'the' stallion. One of the criterea was
old bloodlines and strong, good bones. When a little sorrel stud colt
was born on our farm in 2005 I suddenly realized the answer to our
search might be right there under our nose.
Ravi is a dark red studcolt out of
Red Bud's Last Lady
x Tsuniah's H.B.. Both parents have unique and old bloodlines, each with foundation
Walkers (marked with F-) on their papers. Their conformation and gaits also fit very well
together.
Other than his TWHBEA
registration, Ravi also is Heritage TWH certified.
In theory, Ravi is the type of Tennessee Walking Horse that we strive to breed for
in our breedingprogram. If this would be really the case in practise was something we had
to wait for a little longer. We wanted to monitor this up
close so we decided to keep Ravi and study his development.
Ravi spend his first
winter in a bachelor band together with 3 other studcolts. He came home
in the spring of '06 with a serious injury on his elbow tendon (pulled
and infection on attachment to the bone). 3 months of total stallrest
and intense treatment should give him the best chance for recovery. Ravi
was only a yearling but took the isolation well. We put some mares in
the paddocks attached to his stall so he wasn't alone all the time. The
vet thought the tendon was ruptured at first but luckily he was wrong.
Thanks to his young age and having plenty of time for recovery Ravi
healed well.
In 2006 a full
brother to Ravi was born. The brothers shared a pasture together
for a year and had lots of fun. Click
here for
pics. Ravi (meaning Friend) is very respectful to both human and
animals. He is always in a
good mood, gentle and very soft in all he
does.
Meanwhile Ravi turned into a beautifull red
stallion with a copper shine and a kind disposition. On May 29, 2009 Ravi his first offspring was born. Sam is the spitting
image of his sire with the same deep red coat and long legs.
Sam moved to
Thüringen, Germany where he will be standing at stud. His second offspring is another copy; red studcolt. In the fall of 2009
Ravi was gelded. He now is my personal riding mount.
